About Gender-Base Violence

Gender-Base Violence

Gender-based violence remains one of the most pervasive human rights violations. Despite tireless efforts, millions of women, giris, and marginalized individuals continue to endure unimaginable pain and trauma. Alarming statistics reveal that one in four women in Sri Lanka has suffered physical or sexual violence since the age of 15, while one in five ever-partnered women have been subjected to violence by an intimate partner.

Together with the Canada High Commission to Sri Lanka and Maldives, UNFPA SiLanka conducted a 2-day workshop on Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment for the Legal Aid Commission on gender-sensitive, survivor-centered support for survivors of SGB. The training aimed to raise awareness within communities about their rights in addressing gender-based violence, because every woman has the right to live free from fear, violence, and injustice.
